Volunteers doing canteen service - boone county il

On behalf of the American Red Cross and those affected by last week’s tornado, we would like to extend our warmest thanks to those 750 volunteers who pitched in to help clear away debris in the Poplar Grove area this past weekend. Additionally, we would like to recognize the restaurants and other businesses who donated food and supplies to assist with cleanup efforts, including: Sullivan’s Foods, Wal-Mart, Taco Bell, McDonald’s, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois, Farm and Fleet, Dockside Grill, Coca-Cola, Starbuck’s, Cuppa Joe, Poplar Grove Subway, Lino’s, Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Poplar Grove, Methodist Church of Poplar Grove, Marathon Gas Station, Stop-N-Go, Connie’s Fun Stuff, North Boone School District 200 and numerous individuals who were kind enough to provide what they could.

Without the kindness and commitment of those who supported the Poplar Grove community, the metal and debris could not have been removed at such an astonishing pace. The American Red Cross responded to the scene immediately and provided the following support from that point on through the end of cleanup on Saturday, January 12:

  • Over 3,000 meals and snacks to emergency responders, victims and volunteers
  • Shelter, food and clothing to two families
  • Mental health counseling
  • Comfort Kits containing hygiene items and blankets

If you are one of the individuals who donated supplies and were not recognized, or you would like to make a donation to the American Red Cross Rock River Chapter’s Disaster Relief Fund, please contact the Chapter at: (815) 963-8471.
